LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and MR Stands for multi faceted reflector and the number indicates the diameter in eighths of an inch so a MR11 is 1 3/8 inch at its widest point.
The multi faceted reflector is odd when you refer to a LED MR11 because reflectors are not commonly used, but the term it is still used.
